The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival kicked off last night with a production of The Winter’s Tale. The play runs from June 17th thru July 6, 2014 at the Southmoreland Park located just west of the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum.

The show is free to the public, but donations are accepted as you walk in the entrance. VIP tickets are available at around $75 a person. This includes a front row seat, parking pass and access to the VIP tent that sells adult beverages such as wine and beer.

We attended the opening night performance. The production value for this years run of The Winter’s Tale is outstanding! The live orchestra sounded amazing, the actors did a wonderful job and the lighting/sound crew should to be commended!

Blankets, lawn chairs, panic baskets and coolers are all welcome at the event. I spotted a number of couples enjoying cheese and wine as they comfortably watched the performance under the stars. For those looking for an inexpensive date-night, this is it.
